RENO, Nev. (May 27, 2016)—The 2016 Reno Rodeo Parade will follow a new route this year, heading north on Virginia Street from Arroyo Street through Midtown and up to Liberty Street on Saturday, June 18 at 10 a.m.
“We’ve been throwing around the idea of bringing the parade to Midtown for a while, and we could not be more excited to finally make the change,” said George Combs, general manager of the Reno Rodeo. “The Midtown District business have been so enthusiastic and will bring a new energy to the parade. We think it’s a perfect fit.”
Along with a new route, this year’s parade will be led by three “Young Gun” Grand Marshals; Billy Paganetti of the Peppermill Reno and Western Village, Anthony Carano of Eldorado Resorts and David Farahi of the Atlantis. The parade will also feature cowboys and cowgirls on horseback, the Reno Rodeo Chuckwagon various Reno community organizations and Miss Reno Rodeo. Thanks to a Reno Police Department escort, the Percheron Thunder, which is featured on this year’s commemorative poster, will parade up Virginia as well.
“We’ll be staging on Plumas, so we’re really encouraging folks to park on the east side of Virginia St. or in the complex on the corner of Mt. Rose and Virginia,” said Combs.
The 2016 parade features three cross-street hubs at Caliente, Martin, and St. Lawrence Streets that will feature a slew of rodeo activities. Caliente will have a K-Bull Live Remote and Chapel Tavern will have an “I Love This Bar” Reno Rodeo Legacy Vodka event with live music.
Two blocks later, Martin Street will have kids activities hosted by Happy Happy Joy Joy and Sippees, a pancake breakfast from Reno Host Lion’s Club, and another “I Love This Bar” Reno Rodeo Legacy Vodka event at Craft Beer and Wine. The final hub at St. Lawrence Street features Nevada art and crafts at Never Ender, Cowboy Chili from Süp, and two final “I Love This Bar” Reno Rodeo Legacy Vodka Events at Shea’s Tavern and The Saint. All three hubs will have ticket booths where 2016 Reno Rodeo tickets will be for sale.
The parade will also be the only location to register for the bonus round of Mutton Bustin’ set for Kids’ Day Sunday, June 25, with 100 extra spots available on a first come, first served basis. Registration tables will be set-up on Martin Street and Saint Lawrence Avenue.
The 2016 Reno Rodeo Parade kicks off on Saturday, June 18 at 10 a.m. Applications to participate in the parade are due no later than June 1 and are available at www.renorodeo.com/events/2016/parade.
