Two-Day Event Showcases Horsemanship, Poise, Skill

Reno, Nev. (June 6, 2016)— The 74th annual Miss Reno Rodeo Pageant Thursday, June 9 and Friday, June 10 will be held at Peppermill Resort Spa Casino and the Livestock Events Center Rodeo Grounds. Contestants have two days to wow the judges in seven different categories.

Miss Reno Rodeo is judged on horsemanship and how well the contestant controls their horse, equestrian technique, etiquette, Western style, knowledge of the industry, performance on a written exam and speech and overall rodeo spirit.

The pageant festivities begin at 8 a.m. Thursday, June 9. That day, contestants will be judged on their personal interviews with the judges, their level of accuracy on a written test and on the presentation of their prepared speeches at the Queen Luncheon at Atlantis.

On Friday, June 10 the public is invited to watch contestants compete at the Live Stock Events Center in the remaining categories for the title of Miss Reno Rodeo 2016. Opening ceremonies will begin at 8:45 a.m. with introductions of the judges and contestants followed by the pledge, National Anthem and a prayer by Tom Cates.

The Horsemanship portion of the competition will kick off the pageant at 8:30 a.m. and feature two routine patterns for contestants to follow, the first of which will be set by reining Miss Reno Rodeo, Eva Werschky. The freestyle portion comes second and gives contestants a chance to show off their honed skills in maneuvering their horse in unique and varying patterns. Shortly after, contestants will be quizzed on their knowledge of riding equipment and equestrian science. Followed by Lunch in the Reno Rodeo’s President Room.

The pageant will conclude around 3 p.m. and reconvene at 5:30 p.m. at the Peppermill for cocktails, dinner and the coronation ceremonies. Contestants will show off their formal western attire before Miss Reno Rodeo 2016 is announced at 8:30 p.m.
