RENO, Nev. (June 7, 2016) – The ten day Reno Rodeo begins Thursday, June 16 and continues through Saturday, June 25. Apart from the exciting evening attractions, the “Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West” has much to offer during the day and on the weekends to locals, visitors and rodeo lovers alike. Here are five things to know for this year’s Reno Rodeo.

1) Slack Events
The Reno Rodeo hosts a large number of competitors each year. Because of the high number of cowboys and cowgirls hoping to enter the arena for the timed events, there is a pre-competition round known as “slack.” These slack events are held in the indoor arena beginning Friday, June 17 at 10 a.m. and continue through the finals on Saturday, June 25. Free to watch, attendees can see the exciting qualifying rounds of barrel racing, team roping, tie-down roping and steer wrestling and get to see who will be competing that evening.

2) Drill Team
Poise, music and equestrian skill all come together Friday, June 17 for the drill team competition. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., 12 drill teams from around the region will perform their best, synchronized horseback riding routine for a cheering audience in the indoor arena. Riding teams are judged on general impression, execution of the drill, performance of the horses, originality, crowd appeal and degree of difficulty. One of the most visually intriguing events of the rodeo, don’t miss these talented groups perform. Free to the public June 17.

3) Double R Marketplace
Everyone is invited to “The Biggest Little Shopping Adventure in the West.” The Double R Marketplace is open every day during the Reno Rodeo in the Expo Hall. Vendors from all over bring their work to the marketplace. From western crafts to modern arts, the Double R Marketplace has everything a cowboy, cowgirl or visitor could need. Hours of operation vary. The Double R Marketplace opens: June 15 at 5 p.m., June 16 at 4 p.m., June 17-19 and 23-25 at noon and June 20-22 at 8 a.m.

4) Branding Room
The Branding Room offers Reno Rodeo attendees exclusive dining and entertainment in the Reno Rodeo’s new group space in the South Exhibit Hall. The Branding Room’s intimate atmosphere offers a unique way to experience the Reno Rodeo with friends, family and clients – and it’s the only place to watch live entertainment before the rodeo. In addition to dinner, drinks and live entertainment, tickets to The Branding Room include fantastic group seats to the evening’s Reno Rodeo performance. Pricing is $100 per person.

5) Double R Bar Presented by Coors
This year a new tent will complete the Reno Rodeo grounds. The Double R Bar presented by Coors will be located directly across the carnival grounds from the always-lively Jack Tent. The Double R Bar will open round 5:30 p.m. and stay open until the music stops.
