RENO, Nev. (April 20, 2018) – The Reno Rodeo unveiled this year’s limited edition commemorative poster on Thursday, April 19 during the Reno Rodeo Association luncheon held at the Nugget Casino Resort. Nationally recognized Texas artist Robin Ingle was commissioned by 2018 Reno Rodeo president Bill Summy to create the piece. Both the original oil painting and a framed poster print were unveiled simultaneously, revealing a charming scene in which group of rodeo kids with big dreams are playing in an arena.
“This piece, it brings back a lot of memories,” Summy reflected. “It’s pretty close to my life growing up.”
This year marks the 37th year that the Reno Rodeo president has selected and collaborated with an artist to create a limited edition print in honor of the “Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West.” In starting the process for his print, Summy knew he wanted to feature kids and he wanted an artist that could make faces look realistic.
At a booth at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, he found his artist.
Ingle is an accomplished, nationally-known western artist who has lived in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area all of her life. In addition to creating private party commissions, customized large murals, and various projects throughout the city of Dallas, she is the co-founder and co-owner of Visual Expressions Creative Art School and Gallery (VECAS). Along with her husband Bill, Ingle created an artist’s oasis in Cedar Hill, Texas where beginning and professional artists, ages five and up, experience a variety of hands-on art lessons including painting, jewelry design, ceramics, glass making and mixed media.
She also has a passion for kids and serves as the executive director for Art and Beyond, which provides underprivileged and at risk youth with opportunities for the development of creative skills through art educational programs.
As they embarked on the process of creating the commemorative print, Summy shared photos and ideas with Ingle and conveyed his wish to create a piece that reflected the motto “We Rodeo for the Kids,” something near and dear to his heart.
“Kids are so important to both of us, we really connected immediately,” said Ingle.
“The colors, and the way she captured the kids facial expressions, it’s like real life captured on canvas,” said Summy. “She saw my vision and brought it to reality just as I had imagined it.”
The limited run of 250 signed and numbered prints will be available for sale through the Reno Rodeo office.
