  • Male and female visitors were equally represented at the 87th annual Reno Rodeo held June 15 - 24, 2006. 43% of attendees are avid rodeo fans and another 30% are occaslonalrodeo fans. Average age of attendees is 33 y rs with 58% of the guests, age 18 and over, married. 33% are post-secondary graduates while 2g0/ have high school or less. 77% are'caucasian, 9% Latino/Hispanic, 4% Afrlcan American and 4% N tive AmericanIAmerican Indian. They come from households with average incomes of $68,300. 11% co e from households with annual incomes of less than $25,000, and 9% reside in households with ann al incomes in excess of $150,000.
  • 74% reside within R Sparks, Lake Tahoe and surroundlng areas whlle 5% reside in other parts of the State of Nevada. traveled an average of 44 minutes to the event with two thirds living wlthin a 40 mile radius of Livestock Events Center. Private vehicle was the preferred mode of transportation to of the attendees.
  • They came in averag groups of four people. 44% were accompanied by a spouse. Only 7% attended alone while one in fo r were in parties of five or more people,
  • 56% of guests atten ed because they are mdw enthusiask. 88% attended due to specia/offer(s}. 19% are Reno Rodeo first timers. 65% were at last year's event. On average, each visitor has attended the Rodeo for eight year . Bullriding(45%) and barebacks(13%) are the most papular Rodeo events whiie tie-down mping(0.3 O) is the least favorite.
  • 62% purchased or pl nned to purchase 'bfficia/"souvenir merchandise. On-site per capita spend averaged $35.
  • Four in five guests a ended rodeo performances. One-third made their ticket purchase in the last two weeks.
  • Two-thirds attended he Carnival. Fun was the highest rated aspect of the Carnival receivlng an "average" rating. All other Carnival ratings, including cleanliness of area, qualiQ~/thrillfactor of rides and price ofrides, receiv d 'poor" ratings. 42% of children age 15 and under attended or planned to attend the Speclal Kids Rod o.
  • 69% of "local" attendees read the Reno Gate&-Journal, 14% the News & Reviewand 56% watch the Fox Wstation. 25% indicated that they learned about this year's Rodeo from television, 20% from the newspaper and the same amount from the radlo.

-The Reno Sparks Convention Visitors Bureau (RSCVA) estimates the Reno Rodeo's total economic impact at $32.2 million in lodging, gaming and non-gaming spending. The Reno Rodeo is the fourth largest of the region's annual events.·

- The Reno Rodeo is broadcast on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Desportes and the Outdoor Life Network (OLN). The Reno Rodeo and the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour are responsible for 2 live to tape broadcasts annually, with up to 8 broadcast replays on the networks during designated times.

-The Reno Rodeo has 9 performances. We attract a crowd ranging from 8000 - 10000 for each of the 9 performances. The total number of people passing through the gates of the Reno Livestock Events Center during rodeo week is estimated at 135,000.

· The Reno Rodeo is ranked #3 rodeo in N. America for total prize money not counting the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.

· The Reno Rodeo is ranked as the #2 richest payout in N. America for outdoor rodeos.

· · The Reno Rodeo receives over 1000 professional athlete entries.

· · The Reno Rodeo is in its 86th year. One of the longest running events in the Reno/Sparks area.

· · Nevada is a rodeo state. All Rodeos in the state of Nevada combined pay out more prize money than any other state in the US: i.e., Wrangler NFR, PRCA Winter Tour Finals at MGM Las Vegas, Senior Finals Pro Rodeo in Reno, Professional Bull Riders (PBR) finals in Las Vegas and Bullnanza in Reno, Reno Rodeo, Laughlin, Logandale, Pahrump, Inter-collegiate rodeo and High School Rodeo.

· · The Reno Rodeo pays out over $2.1 million during the 9 performances and all ancillary activities that take place during the rodeo, i.e., Team Roping, Tie-Down Roping and Team Penning events during the day.

· A Reno Rodeo sponsored survey by Marketec during the 2000 rodeo stated that 59% of the patrons are area residents living within 20 miles of the RLEC, with 17% day visitors and 24% staying in the Reno/Sparks area overnight.

· The average party size is 3.8, with 3 adults over age 21.

· Overnight visitors tend to average 4.1 adults while this drops to 3.0 for day visitors and 2.7 for residents.

· Attendance: Overnight visitors attend 2.8 performances compared with 2.5 for residents and 2.2 for day visitors.

· A total of 19 percent of the patrons are first time visitors to the rodeo this past year. First time visitors are slightly more likely to be women, between the ages of 25 and 34 or between 45 and 54 and to be overnight visitors from Northern California.

· Women made up 56% of the audience while 58% of the total attendance was between the ages of 25 - 44.

· Most overnight visitors are staying in a hotel (64%), followed by staying with friends or relatives (18%). Eight percent stayed in area motels.

· The average number of nights staying in Reno/Sparks area is 4.

· 65% of the Overnight visitors came by car, 27% by air and 5% by recreational vehicle.

· 72% of overnight visitors and 99% of the day visitors affirmed they came to Reno/Sparks for the Rodeo.

· 71% of overnight visitors gambled and only 6% of day visitors. Overnight visitors' gaming budget for their trip averaged $632

· On the average, first time rodeo patrons spend considerably more per person ($409), than those who have been to the rodeo previously ($352). Men average more than women - $729 and $79 respectively.

· The Reno Rodeo is recognized internationally. The Reno Rodeo receives requests for information for tickets, scores and information from all over the world; i.e., Poland, Australia, South Africa, Canada, Germany, England, Norway, Sweden and others.

· WWW.RENORODEO.COM offers on-line ticket sales, photo gallery, schedule info, real-time scoring during the rodeo, streaming video, on-line sales of souvenirs and apparel and many other sections of interest.

· WWW.RENORODEO.COM averages 250,000 hits per month off-season and over 1,000,000 during the rodeo. Over 100,000 unique hits.

-The Reno Rodeo is a not-for-profit organization sustained by thousands of man hours from hundreds of volunteers. In 1986 The Reno Rodeo Association established the Reno Rodeo Foundation The Foundation is a public charity through which a majority of the Rodeo's profits benefit children with extraordinary needs. The Foundation provides scholarships to the University of Nevada, Reno as well as grant funds to deserving organizations including Boy Scouts, the RAVE Family Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Angel Kiss and the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows. The foundation also pursues capital building projects for children, the latest being a recreational facility for Washoe County's Kids Kampus.
